Starting Something New
Publishing more blogs/blurbs here is definitely one of my newer goals moving forward. Some life updates include:
I got married!
We went to Korea & Thailand for our honeymoon
I got laid off right before Christmas
Getting married was definitely such a thrill. It was so great to see my friends and family gathered to celebrate us! I was so nervous about the wedding itself that it was only after that I realized how hard it must have been for our closest friends to make speeches and toasts to us. Apart from Mr. Husband catching COVID from/at/after the wedding, everything went perfectly :)
Traveling to Asia was so fun. It was our first international trip together and it was incredibly satisfying to leave the country for two weeks. We stayed in Korea for a week, then in Thailand for four days, and then came back to Korea for the rest of the trip. In Thailand, we spent two days in Chiang Mai and then two days in Bangkok. Chiang Mai was the clear favorite—we visited an Elephant Rescue Park and fed, walked, and bathed with the elephants. We met a 8 year old elephant named Shabu and he was such a funny character. I would love to go back to see Phuket and Pattaya, the coastal cities of the country. In Korea, we stayed in Seoul (Gangnam, Anguk) and also in Miryang, Gyeongju, and Incheon. Korea will always be my second home and I always forget how much I miss it until I’m actually there (maybe the missing is just repressed…)
After coming back from traveling, work sucked even more. I was definitely quietly quitting as the post COVID working from home phenomenon is called. I’ve never gotten laid off before so that was definitely a sucky feeling, but I would have never left! It feel refreshing and I didn’t fully realize how much work was affecting me so I am taking it slow and figuring out what I want to do next. I want to make what I want to make! I need to figure out what I want to make first! But also need to stop putting so much pressure on myself to think about all these things at once, I need to start somewhere…
I’ll keep myself accountable here.
Porter + Madeon = Porteon 🎨
I saw the Shelter Tour back in 2017 and it was the best thing I’ve ever seen. So I made a sweater [some sweaters].
I took the Porteon logo and put it as the “moon” in my design. The text is lyrics from Porter Robinson’s Long Goodbye to a World. During the concert, when the Porteon remix of this song came on, the text was being typed in a computer/pixel font, so I tried to recreate that. This was the most memorable part/song of the show for me, so I wanted to incorporate it in my sweaters. The mountains are in a low-poly style and stylized into lines, and the concentric circles or bubbles near the bottom are to signify clouds or fog. I chose a hexagon to encase my design because hexagons. are. my. favorite.
I drafted the design for the sweater, then created a mockup, which is what the charcoal sweater below is. I then took it to a printer to make a screen for it. The last picture on the right is the film they used to manufacture the screen.
A short clip from the concert, below.
